Why The DC Area Blows.

The DC Area is the largest hellhole in this country.

Here’s why the DC Area sucks shit.

All the roads are paved with loose gravel, potholes, crappy patches and dead squirrels. The roads in Pennsylvania are 10000% better than these. Even the highways are 10000% better there than here.

The real estate prices are fucking ridiculous. For the price of one human soul, your left kidney and your Grandmother’s prized jewelry you can buy a one bedroom condo in the shitty part of town.

It’s way too congested. Good luck escaping this dump on any road.

The traffic laws in Virginia are way too strict. Sorry going 80 miles per hour or 20 over at any time means jail!

Evidently, the same city planner in charge of the road system in Mali was contracted to come design roads in the DC area. What’s that? You want road markings that don’t look like asshole? Get bent.

There are zero fun roads within 100 miles of DC on the Virginia side at least. The ones that used to be fun aren’t anymore.

The GW Parkway is some shit. It was a little more fun before they turned it into a pothole sanctuary.

It’s overdeveloped. Like crazy. IS THAT AN OPEN PLOT OF LAND? PUT A HOUSE THERE, THAT LAND CANNOT BE WASTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The crime rate is nuts. Even the “Nice” parts of DC aren’t that nice.

Everywhere that isn’t overdeveloped isn’t overdeveloped because the developers are scared for their life whenever they get near.

Summer here is miserable. It’s like somebody farted in a giant microwave with DC inside of it.

It’s miserably flat. There is no scenery whatsoever unless you want to drive out to Great Falls or something.

There are no real rural areas anywhere nearby, it’s all Suburbia for the privileged.

Everybody is constantly texting and driving or just using their phone. ALWAYS, YES THAT INCLUDES YOU DOUCHECANOE IN THE BLACK 7-SERIES.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So, that’s why DC sucks. There are more reasons that I can’t think of trust me. Feel free to contribute those.

I’m really looking forward to leaving this damn area for good.

Typical DC Real Estate Agent: “3 Car Garage, two identical mini mansions available, close to city, good neighborhood.”

Those two houses are completed now. Both of them have three car garages and are quite large. The only problem is that they are 50 yards away from 395. Which is a very loud, congested highway 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months a year. This just goes to show how overpopulated this area is getting that they take desperate measures to sell houses.

And this is how much they’re trying to get for that house.....

Who ever lives there will likely die from cancer from the emissions, not to mention the layer of soot that will encase that property every single day.

We were pretty happy to get out of there.

I will say this: when the weather’s good, and if you get up early on a Saturday or Sunday morning, the GW Parkway is actually a really nice drive. You can’t go crazy fast because it’s full of cops and VA speed laws are in effect, but it’s a solid cruise. I used to go from Mount Vernon up to the 495 all the time, especially when I had a convertible press car.

Glad my family moved from there before it got this bad.. or before I got old enough to be cynical about it.

What I remember most about the GW parkway is that everyone always drives about 10 under, side by side.

Well that and the fact that people abbreviate it while speaking even though it takes just as long to say “G W” as it does to say “George Washington “.

I grew up in Montgomery County, MD. There were plenty of curvy roads.

Nice things about the DC area:

Great job market so you can make enough money to buy the overpriced real estate.

Trees everywhere.

I mean, DC was a swamp before the city was built, so...

Yeah.

I am getting sick of the over-development. It’s disgusting. It’s unsustainable and it makes life miserable for everybody who is already here. The housing isn’t needed, the housing just invites more people to show up. It was so much quieter when we moved here in ‘96.

Maybe there, but not in Northern Virginia.

Even 10 years ago it was much quieter.

Like.... Just look at that house.

Yes, Katie’s is pretty nice. Especially since they repaved the Georgetown Pike.

That anyone would want to live 10 meters from the beltway astounds me.

To think that they built two identical houses like that right next to each other.........

It’s desperation, 20 years ago it probably would have seemed insane to build there. There’s no wall or tree cover either. There’s only a rusty chain link fence and a half foot high concrete wall between them and the highway. There’s also a puny access road.

Desperation from whom? If anybody, it’s politicians helping their contractor buddies by allowing all this development. “Development.”

Desperation and greed to keep developing at all costs. No clue who even permitted it. That area was trees 6 years ago.

Hit up Rock Creek Park. Nice roads, not flat, and great scenery. Just don’t stumble through it drunk at 3am (hint hint). I like living in between Baltimore and DC, nice balance of everything.

The garages on those houses are weird.

Double on one side, single on the other. I thought they were duplexes, but now that they are complete, it doesn’t look like it.

Completed they look quite nice, especially while stuck in traffic in front of them. I still would rather not live right on the highway though. Wonder if they’ve got buyers set up already.

Haha, I just updated with that same link a couple minutes ago.

Either way, it’s ridiculous. They’re nice houses, but not $1.8M nice for a highway view nice.

I don’t even live that close to the Beltway, but if I leave the windows open at night I can still hear the drone of the highway quite well at all hours. I can’t even imagine how loud it is for whoever buys those houses, even with the “Sound deadening windows.” It’s also not really that kid safe, since ya know highway right out the front door.

DC(ish) resident here. Agree with much of what you said. Roads suck, lost (2) rims to potholes in the past year. You know how hard it is to find ONE rim? Actually it was easy for the 1st car (Lexus IS), the Fusion SE wheel was $700 from the dealer. And that’s cost (I know the GM). F-that, we got it repaired at a wheel place.

Saying the roads are worse than PA is a stretch though. haha My wife is from there, we go up pretty often, the roads are awful. Like everywhere. I’m not sure what they spend tax money on, but it’s not roads. In DC they are awful in specific spots (GW is getting bad) but overall they aren’t as bad, especially per-capita.

Why everyone and their Mother moves out into BFE VA is beyond me. Fredericksburg to DC? F-that. Leesburg to DC? No. I moved 20 miles outside DC on the other side of SE DC and PG County (guess no one wants to drive through there) and got 1-acre and a real house for half what it would cost in town.

That said, I miss Arlington, I miss being able to walk to stuff.

I’d personally rather commute to a nice house far away from DC to a crappy house for the same price near DC.
